Personal Development

The Six@BA Personal Development Programme is taken by all students.  It is designed to get you where you want to be once you have completed your programme of study with us here at Berwick Academy.

There are two development programmes:

Core PDF

All students will take the course "Preparing for Uni", offered online by the University of East Anglia, during the January and February of Year 12.  This is designed to develop and enhance students' study skills and support their studies during Years 12 and 13.

Students will then choose from a range of PDP courses and activities including:

  • Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
  • Microsoft Academy
  • Business Challenge
  • Volunteering
  • AS Critical Thinking
  • Digital Leaders
  • AS General Studies
  • Work Experience
  • Online courses (MOOCs) with leading universities

Students progressing to Year 13 and intending to apply through UCAS will then be invited to attend the course "Pre University Skills", designed by the University of East Anglia and delivered by senior teachers at Berwick Academy.

Extended PDP

Students following the Six+ programme of study would be expected to follow the core PDP.  Many students following this programme will have already passed the EPQ and AS Critical Thinking.  This enables them to take other options from the core PDF offer, possibly focused on one or two online courses from leading universities.

Students wishing to gain the Baccalaureate Diploma will need to ensure that they have passed the EPQ, AS General Studies and AS Critical Thinking as well as providing evidence of enrichment through the other PDF courses.

Six+ students will participate in the tutorial programme from January of Year 12.
