How We Report Progress
Grading
A-Level students are awarded an A to E grade. Vocational courses at Key Stage 4 and 5 are awarded Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* grades. At Key Stage 4, a Level 2 Pass is equivalent to a GCSE grade 4.
Working At Grades
Working at grades are teacher assessments based on evidence gathered throughout the year.
Additional evidence may include:
- Key in-class assessments
- Independent study (Sixth Form students only)
Throughout the year, some students may see improvements in their grades, while others may experience a decline. 'Working at' grades significantly reflect effort and attendance. They also reflect the unique challenge of the module or topic being studied, which means that some variability in working at grades is possible, in particular in the earlier stages of a course or year as we gather a robust evidence base over time.
Minimum Expected Grades
Minimum expected grades represent the standard a student should achieve by the end of their current programme of study:
- For Year 9 students, this standard reflects the expected achievement by the end of Year 11, when their Key Stage 4 courses conclude.
- For Year 10 and 11 students, this is the expected standard by the end of Year 11.
- For Year 12 and 13 students, the standard reflects the expected achievement by the end of Year 13, when their Key Stage 5 courses finish.
These minimum expected grades are set using a nationally recognized system called FFT, which is used by over 16,000 schools across the UK.
Attitude to Learning
Teachers assess students on how well they demonstrate the school’s core values of On Time, On Side, and On Task. Students are assigned a grade based on their performance:
- 1 – Outstanding
- 2 – Meets expectation
- 3 – Below expectation
- 4 – Significantly below expectation
