History
Course Information
To understand the problems society faces today we can use history to investigate similar events in the past. In this way we may learn from their mistakes and create a better future. Studying History at Advanced level could make you one of society's future decision makers.
The course is designed to foster the development of critical and reflective thinking with an understanding of historical topics and issues. You will learn how to argue a case and reach judgements through debate and dynamic discussion. It will allow you to improve as an effective and independent learner with a curious and enquiring mind by carrying out personal research and group presentation.
You will study a range of topics from the late 15th to the 20th century. The course comprises the following:
- British period study: The Early Tudors (1hr 30 exam = 25%))
- Non-British period study Russia 1894-1941 (1 hr exam = 15%)
- Thematic Study: Popular Culture and the Witchcraze of the 16th and 17th Centuries (2hr 30 exam = 40%)
- Topic based essay (coursework) 3000-4000 word essay on a topic of your choice (20%)
Assessment
This subject is assessed through final examination.
