What will I study?
This qualification aims to focus on the study of child development and care in the early years . Offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge and provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills. There are 9 key content areas outlined below
How will I be assessed?
The qualification has 2 assessments externally-set by NCFE: one non-exam assessment and one written examined assessment with a weighting of 50% each.
Teaching and learning approaches
We use a variety of teaching techniques in childcare, including videos, case studies, role-plays.
You will be involved in carrying out

- Classroom discussions
- Practical Tasks
Independent Learning
Self Study will be set weekly and will take various forms. It could be research based or a stand-alone piece.
The Future
Learners who achieve at level 2 might consider progression to level 3 qualifications post-16, such as:
- Level 3 Applied Generals in:
- Early Years, Childcare and Education
- Health and Social Care
- Level 3 Technical Level qualifications, including T Level programmes, allow for entry to the workforce and higher education
- education and childcare, including a range of options for early years educators and teaching assistants
- health and social care
- health science
