World Book Day – Immersive Reading Experiences
Students in Years 9, 10 and 11 participated in immersive reading experiences to celebrate World Book Day this year.
The theme for Year 9 was adventure and students were treated to an extract from Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne, read by Mrs Allenby and Miss Robson.
For Year 10, the focus was on football and the autobiography of Roberto Baggio, A Goal in the Sky, better known as Una Porta Nel Cielo; Mr Wilkinson read an excerpt about Baggio’s famous missed World Cup penalty. Students enjoyed the discussion about resilience as well as the live penalty demonstration, with Mr Cockburn in goal!
George Orwell’s 1984 was the focus for Year 11, with Winston’s experiences under a totalitarian regime brought to life by Miss MacDonald and her team of teachers providing audiovisual effects.
The immersive readings were a hit with students who enjoyed the way the texts were brought to life with sound, lighting and other imaginative details.
