At a meeting of Northumberland County Council’s Cabinet on 9th May 2023, the Cabinet received the recommendation to reorganise education within the Berwick Partnership of schools to a two-tier (primary/secondary) system of education. A statutory consultation is now under way, and you are able to give your views on this via the methods outlined in the report on the Council’s website by Thursday 8th June 2023.
Part of this consultation includes a recommendation that Berwick Academy seeks approval to add Years 7 and 8 to the school to provide a secondary school within the partnership, and that the planned admissions number is reduced in line with numbers of children moving through the partnership. In addition, the consultation recommends that Berwick Academy creates a specialist provision that supports young people with SEMH, ASD, MLD and SLCN needs. This provision will add to the SEND provision that already supports our young people.
Berwick Academy Trustees have resolved to support the recommendations as outlined in the report and agreed by Cabinet on 9th May 2023 in full.
